About Us

Fondation Quatre Pattes is a Haitian non-profit organization created in 2013 by Kelly Crowdis, Rosedanie Cadet and Caroline Zennie with the help of our international partner World Horse Welfare.

In Haiti people tend to overlook the necessary care required to live alongside animals as they are for the most part seen as tools meant to fulfill specific tasks. Our founders wanted to work alongside World Horse Welfare to bring equine welfare to communities which rely on equids in important aspects of their lives, and which don’t have much knowledge on how to properly care for the animal in a way that is beneficial for both the animal and the owner.

At Fondation Quatre Pattes, we dedicate our time supporting and showing the members of the communities what it means to care for their animals. Since 2013, with the help of our esteemed partner, World Horse Welfare, the foundation has assisted many equids and their owners. We have received support for different projects from animal welfare organizations like HSI and Equestrian.

However, since 2019, due to Haiti’s socio-political and security challenges, the foundation efforts have been concentrated in the rural communities of Kenscoff. Our hope is to continue to expand our reach to more communities in other regions in the country.

Every Living Being is Worth Caring for

Our Partner

World Horse Welfare is an international charity dedicated to improving the welfare of horses worldwide. Founded in 1927, the organization works to protect horses from suffering and to promote their well-being through rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming efforts. They also engage in education and advocacy, working with governments, communities, and other organizations to create lasting change in horse welfare practices. Their work spans the UK, Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia, where they address issues such as equine health, welfare standards, and the role of working horses in developing countries. Through a combination of hands-on care, research, and policy influence, World Horse Welfare aims to ensure that every horse lives a life free from suffering.

In 2013, World Horse Welfare (WHW) reached out to Fondation Quatre Pattes (FQP) to Stephanie Perreira, expressing their interest in establishing a project in Haiti. World Horse Welfare had already been involved in initiatives in Haitian communities like Zoranje, Fond Baptiste, and Thomazeau, where they observed the receptiveness of equine owners and identified a clear need for their support.

Recognizing the potential for impactful collaboration, World Horse Welfare sought to partner with a Haitian animal welfare organization, leading to a strong relationship with Fondation Quatre Pattes. Since then, World Horse Welfare has been instrumental in FQP’s creation and growth, significantly enhancing their efforts in Haiti.
